Product description

Birds have no teeth. They grind their seed in the gizzard, and for that they need hard grit. Sharp grit provides it: your bird picks up the grains itself, they stay in the gizzard and grind the seed there.

Without grit, that grinding is harder work and your bird gets less out of the same feed. This grade is coarser and matched to large seed eaters: budgies, lovebirds, larger parakeets and parrots.

Offer it separately in a small dish, or mix a little through the feed. Your birds take what they need, so make sure there is always some available and refresh it regularly. Fresh drinking water goes with it.

Benefits

  • Part of the basics

Not an extra: without hard grit the gizzard grinds the seed less well.

  • The right grade for large birds

Too coarse or too fine doesn't work. For small birds there is a finer grade.

  • Your birds dose themselves

Put it out separately and they take what they need. No weighing, no calculating.

  • Large 25 kg bag

For anyone with an aviary or a lot of birds. Stored dry it lasts a long time.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I give?

You don't have to weigh anything. Put out a small dish and top it up when it runs low. Your birds take what they need.

Is this the same as shell sand or oyster shell?

No. Grit helps grind the seed. Oyster shell and shell sand mainly supply calcium, for example for the eggshell in the breeding season. They complement each other.

Which birds is this grade for?

For small seed eaters such as canaries, Gouldian finches and zebra finches. If you have larger birds, take the version for large birds.

For larger seed eaters such as budgies, lovebirds and parrots. If you have small birds, take the version for small birds.

You can, but a separate dish works best: that way you also see at once when it has run out.

How long does it keep?

Stored dry it keeps indefinitely. Just make sure no moisture gets to it.

Do I need it outside the breeding season too?

Yes. Your birds grind their seed all year round, so grit is always part of it.
